Blustery fall weather will finally arrive in Denver this week, but much of the metro area will remain under heightened risk of fire Monday due to high winds.

Temperatures could reach a high of 81 degrees Monday in Denver but are forecast to drop to the 50s and 60s Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Temperatures this month have repeatedly fallen above average for this time of year and Monday’s high is no exception.

Winds could gust up to 15 mph in Denver on Monday and Tuesday. Lower pressure could also bring rain early Tuesday morning.

A red flag warning will be in effect Monday across a large portion of the state, including the foothills in Jefferson County and much of Douglas, Arapahoe and Adams counties. The warning means that fires could spread quickly and be extremely dangerous due to high winds and low humidity.

Weather in the mountains near Breckenridge will be cool and sunny throughout the week, according to the weather service. Temperatures will remain in the 60s and winds will remain high Monday and Tuesday.
