Cooler weather with drizzle and fog expected Tuesday across the foothills and plains. That doesn’t mean Colorado is out of the woods just yet — fire danger remains high in the mountains with red flag warnings in effect.

Denverites can expect some fall weather with a drizzle Tuesday before 1 p.m. and a slight chance of showers after 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The day calls for a high of 58 degrees and wind gusts up to 16 mph and the evening is expected to hit a low of 43 degrees, with wind gusts and more chance of showers.

Across the foothills and plains, forecasters predict cool and moist conditions with more rain and fog possible in the evening, the weather service’s hazardous outlook stated. Drivers should be aware of low visibility conditions.

Critical fire danger, however, will continue over high mountain valleys and portions of the north central mountains, according to the outlook. Wind gusts are expected to get as high as 35 mph with humidity dropping to less than 10 percent on valley floors. The conditions will likely improve by sunset though.

Fire danger is expected to remain high in the mountains through the end of the week, forecasters predicted.
