Elbert earned a win when they defeated Swink 36-28 on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Swink High School Football Field.

Nathan Tornone powered Elbert’s passing attack with 172 yards through the air, tossing three touchdowns and one interception. Tornone also added 57 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Tornone’s most reliable receiver in the ballgame was Kade Bitterman, who caught seven passes for 75 yards and three scores. Sebastian Rose got involved in the passing game as well, reeling in eight passes for 60 yards.

In addition to Tornone’s effort, Rose lead the Elbert rushing attack by accumulating 49 yards in the contest, averaging 24.5 yards per carry. Rose also tacked on 60 receiving yards.

Matthew Mendoza spearheaded the Swink ground game by finishing with 267 yards and three touchdowns in the contest, averaging 7 yards per carry. Noah Zumwalt added 77 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 6.4 yards per carry.

Swink will play host to Calhan, while Elbert will travel to play Front Range Christian.
