A young woman from Denver is banking on her throwing arm to earn her $100,000 toward tuition at Texas Christian University.

Jazlyn Rodriguez is a finalist in the Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway, an annual contest in which students from across the country compete to throw the most number of footballs through a giant soda can in 30 seconds during College Football Conference Championship weekend.

The winner will receive $100,000 in tuition, and the runner-up nabs $25,000 toward tuition.

The 20 finalists were chosen based on video submissions explaining how the tuition money would impact their lives.

, the Denverite explains how coming from a low-income family and being the first in her family to attend a four-year university shaped her world view.

“Many teens and families like mine fall into a cycle of destructive living,” Rodriguez said. “I want to help minorities like myself understand the value of financial literacy and smart spending.”

Rodriguez’s chance to throw her way to victory will take place on Saturday during the Big 12 championship game.
