Two drivers died when a Jeep hit a Ford pickup truck Wednesday morning in Weld County, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The accident happened near Colorado 66 and Weld County Road 17. Colorado 66 was closed in both directions near Mead due to the accident.

The driver of a 2008 Jeep, heading westbound, crossed over a double yellow line and hit a 2014 pickup truck head on at about 6:13 a.m., said Trooper Josh Lewis, a CSP spokesman.

Both drivers died in the crash, Lewis said. No other people were involved.

The Colorado Department of Transportation at 11 a.m. announced the highway reopened in both directions. An investigation is ongoing.
