Mild temperatures and partly-sunny skies in the Denver metro area Sunday could give way to snow showers overnight and into Monday morning as blowing snow in the mountains makes its way to the plains.

Snow is expected to fall throughout the day in the mountains Sunday and into Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Mountain residents should expect to see between six and 12 inches, with some blowing snow.

On the plains, mostly cloudy skies coupled with highs in the upper 50s Sunday could turn into overnight snow showers — there’s about a 20% chance — as the mountain cold front descends.

Most snow in the Denver metro area will fall after midnight with an overnight low of 25 degrees, according to the weather service. Monday morning commuters in the Denver region could also see snow showers before 9 a.m.

Monday’s temperatures will be colder, with a high around 36 degrees and a low around 19 degrees. Morning clouds will gradually give way to sunshine, according to the weather service.
