A 29-year-old woman died near Cameron Pass west of Fort Collins on Sunday after skiing when an avalanche hit.

The avalanche shortly before 2:45 p.m. caught the woman. Other skiers dug her out and called for help. But the woman wasn’t breathing, Larimer County authorities said Sunday night.

She was from Fort Collins and was skiing on Diamond Peak at an elevation around 11,400 feet above sea level, according to a Colorado Avalanche Information Center accident report. The avalanche of snow slid for about 500 feet.

Sheriff’s deputies went to the pass and the woman was declared dead at the scene. The coroner was to conduct an investigation. The authorities didn’t release the woman’s name.
