Getting your player ready...
We polled skiers and snowboarders in the official Ikon Pass Holders Facebook group to learn their tried-and-true ski travel advice. Here’s some of what we learned:
- If you’re feeling extra spontaneous, book a Southwest flight (no change fees!) and keep an eye on the weather forecast. Then chase that sweet powder wherever it takes you. (You can also find out .)
- If you plan to rent gear when you arrive, take your own boots. You don’t want your vacation to be ruined by boots that don’t fit.
- If you have to rent a car, ask about all-wheel drive or snow chains. When you arrive in the mountain town, park the car and take a bus or shuttle whenever possible.
- If you’re traveling with a big group, keep a master Google Doc with addresses, phone numbers and other details. This way, everyone is on the same page and you can easily communicate changes.
- If you can’t fly direct, consider connecting through southern (read: warmer) airports to avoid weather-related delays.
- Call the official ski resort lodging office and see what deals are available to pass holders. You may be surprised at the savings you can get for a group. (Plus: )
- Make a packing list and check it twice (especially if you’re traveling with kids!). You don’t want to wind up paying top dollar to replace a ski jacket that was left a home.
- Even if you’re experienced, take a private lesson with an instructor to get the lay of the land at an unfamiliar resort.
