Westbound lanes of Interstate 70 on Vail Pass were shut down Monday night by a traffic crash.

The Colorado Department of Transportation announced the closure at about 8:40 p.m. and the highway was reopened about an hour later. The highway closed as a safety precaution at Exit 190 because of a multi-vehicle crash.

Multiple sections of the highway, and other mountain roadways, closed temporarily earlier on Monday as a safety precaution because of snow, adverse road conditions and traffic crashes.

Vail weather at about 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, was 14 degrees with 94% humidity and visibility of 1.19 miles. There is a 20% chance of snow in the area through the night.
