Two bodies found Friday in Rocky Mountain National Park have been identified as a young Colorado Springs mother and her toddler son.

The body of 24-year-old Tristen Watson was found Friday afternoon in the park. Watson’s death has been ruled a suicide by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office, according to a Monday news release.

The body of 17-month old Christopher Watson, Tristen Watson’s son, also was found on Friday. His manner of death has been ruled a homicide. They both died of gunshot wounds.

Rangers were notified Friday of a suicidal person who was likely in the park, according to a Rocky Mountain National Park news release. Watson’s vehicle was found on the Upper Beaver Meadows Road, leading to the discovery of the bodies on the Beaver Meadows Trail.
