A few snow showers are possible in the Denver metro area on Wednesday afternoon, and while little accumulation is expected, it could lead to a few slick spots in the foothills and mountains on Wednesday.

A weak cold front will drop through the Front Range on Wednesday, leading to a few snow showers into the Denver area on Wednesday afternoon and potentially lingering into the early evening hours.

Little accumulation is expected in the immediate Denver area, with perhaps a dusting to maybe an inch possible in the city on Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be at or just above 32 degrees on Wednesday, meaning the snow will likely have a difficult time sticking to roads. But, slightly colder spots will stand a better chance for seeing minor accumulations.

As usual, the areas with the best chances for the highest accumulations will be along the Palmer Divide and the foothills west of Denver. That’s where an inch or two of snow could fall by Wednesday evening, particularly in western Jefferson and Boulder Counties.

Mountain snow showers will be more persistent through the day on Wednesday, leading to as much as a half foot of snow in the central and northern mountains by the time it ends on Wednesday night. Interstate 70 and points north from there in the mountains will likely experience tricky travel conditions most of the day on Wednesday.

This comes on the heels of Denver’s first official snowfall in nearly a month on Monday, with 0.5 inches of snow recorded at the city’s official climate site at Denver International Airport. Most of central Denver, though, saw less snow than that on Monday.

Another chance for light snow could potentially also affect Denver on Thursday, but this also looks minimal, at best.

The weekend, however, will turn unseasonably mild, with high temperatures potentially soaring to near 70 degrees in Denver by Sunday.
