The Colorado Rockies made official Friday what had been reported a week earlier — the franchise’s agreement with Trevor Story on a two-year contract.
The Rockies and their all-star shortstop will avoid arbitration thanks to the agreement. Terms were not disclosed by the club in Friday’s release, although it was previously revealed by a source that the contract was two years, $27.5 million.
The Rockies and Story were $750,000 apart when the two sides submitted arbitration figures for 2020, with Story asking for $11.5 million for one year and Colorado offering $10.75 million.
The two-time all-star has hit .276/.341/.537 over four seasons in Colorado. He put up career-highs in runs scored (111), batting average (.294) and on-base percentage (.363) last season and also hit 35 home runs. He is the first shortstop in major league history to hit at least 20 homers in each of his first four seasons. He also was a National League Gold Glove Award finalist.
