Just like January, February is usually a month with a few shots of light snow, but blockbuster snowstorms aren’t typically a mid-winter thing along the Front Range.
Denver’s biggest snowstorms are usually saved for March, April or the fall season, but every so often, a big Front Range snowstorm can sneak into February as well.
One thing that stands out about the top February snowstorm list in Denver, though is that several of the top events have come within the last few years. Here’s a look back at the top February snowstorms on record in the Denver area:
5) February 22-23, 1909: Over a foot of snow fell over these two February days back in 1909, including an official total of 12.9 inches at Denver’s old downtown observation site. Denver would go on to get 18.3 inches of snow that February, which is still tied for the fifth-snowiest February on record.

On the last day of February (the 29th) in 1912, the Denver Post ran a roundup story of the month’s snowy weather records.
4) February 24-25, 1912: Denver’s second-snowiest February on record came way back in 1912, when 22.1 inches fell over the course of the month. Most of that came during this two-day stretch towards the end of the month, when 13.5 inches fell in Denver. A total of 9.2 inches fell on February 24th, the snowiest day of the stretch and the month.
Perhaps most remarkably, that February saw measurable snowfall in 13 of the 29 days that month. It was a brutal winter overall, as 13.2 inches of snow fell that May as well.
