Afternoon and evening snow will make Denver’s roads and highways icy and likely causing the Monday evening commute to be very slow, forecasters said.

Patchy fog is expected Monday morning until around 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. The high temperature Monday is expected to stay below freezing at around 30 degrees, the NWS said.

The chance of precipitation is 80%. During daylight, snow accumulation of less than a half inch is expected. In the evening, Denver could get between 1-2 inches of new snow, mainly after 4 p.m., the NWS said.

“As temps fall, roads will become slippery early this evening, leading to slow evening commute,” the NWS said.

The heaviest snow will be in the foothills and south of Denver, the weather service said. Boulder is expected to get about 4 inches of snow. Castle Rock could get 5 inches of snow, the NWS said.

It should be partly sunny on Tuesday with a high temperature right at the freezing mark of 32 degrees, the NWS said.

Snow showers are possible again on Wednesday after 11 a.m. and before 11 p.m., forecasters said. Winds could gust up to 17 mph.

A slow warm up is expected to begin on Thursday, when it will be sunny with a high temperature of around 39 degrees, the NWS said.

The high temperatures are forecast climb to about 45 degrees on Friday, 41 on Saturday and 45 on Sunday, the NWS said.
