A powerful snowstorm could drop between 4 to 10 inches of snow along the Front Range on Thursday and Friday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a winter storm warning.

The warning goes from 9 a.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.

The weather service also issued a blizzard warning during the same period northeast Colorado east of Interstate 25.  Blowing snow could cause whiteout conditions, forecasters said. Winds could gust up to 55 mph.

The mountains could get up to 18 inches of snow, and the foothills could see up to 16 inches on Thursday and Friday, the weather service said.

The snow could be heavy at times. There is a 100% chance of precipitation on Thursday. Afternoon snow is possible on Friday, when there is a 30% chance of snow showers.

The storm will be replaced with mostly sunny skies on the weekend when temperatures will rise to about 49 degrees on Saturday and 55 on Sunday, the weather service said.
