The threat of isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms is expected to intensify over northeastern Colorado the next few days with hail and strong, damaging winds possible in some areas.
Afternoon thunderstorms Thursday through Saturday, including in the Denver metro area, are expected to be “strong to severe,” according to the National Weather Service.
In Denver on Thursday, skies will be mostly sunny and the high temperature will top out at 92 degrees, according to the weather service forecast. There’s a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. and southwest winds will gust to about 18 mph.
On Friday, skies will be mostly sunny again, with a high temperature near 94 degrees, the weather service said. Afternoon winds will gust to 20 mph and there’s a 20% chance for precipitation.
The chance for afternoon showers and storms increase to 30% on Saturday in Denver and the high temperature will top out at 92 degrees under partly sunny skies, according to the weather service.
An approaching upper level weather disturbance will create very windy conditions Saturday through Monday, which will also increase wildland fire danger for the three-day period, the weather service said.
Sunday’s weather in Denver is expected to be sunny and breezy with a high temperature of 94 degrees.
