While winds are expected to pick up this evening, Denver is expected to have a mostly pleasant day with a high near 78 degrees and an evening low of 44 degrees, the National Weather Service in Boulder forecasts.

The afternoon should see winds between 8-16 mph in the afternoon before things pick up in the evening. There is a 20% chance of rain showers after 5 p.m. that increased to 50% chance later in the night.

A high wind warning is in effect for Weld, Denver and eastern Larimer counties from 6 p.m. Monday to 3 a.m. Tuesday. Denver could see speeds up to 45 mph, threatening trees and power lines, the National Weather Service said.

Monday’s winds still won’t compare to Saturday’s which many think was the state’s first derecho or a wide and long-lived line of damage-producing severe thunderstorms. Saturday’s winds caused power outages across the metro area.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy before it gradually clears to sunny skies, with a high near 68 degrees. A north-northwest wind, with gusts as high as 45 mph, is expected to continue.

The National Weather Service predicts that winds will die down Wednesday. It should be sunny, with a high near 79 degrees and winds as high as 18 mph, according to the weather service in Boulder.
