With the start of the Major League Baseball season postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, we here at The Denver Post took a look at how the Rockies would fare in MLB The Show 20 on PlayStation 4. We will have a story for every game that had been scheduled until real-life baseball returns. Here’s a look at the virtual Rockies’ preseason preview. Entering Thursday’s game, the Rockies were 48-25.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Rockies scratched and clawed their way back late to eke out a 6-5 victory Thursday over the Cardinals in 10 innings at Busch Stadium to avoid a sweep.

Second baseman Garrett Hampson hit a single off of Giovanny Gallegos in the top of the 10th to drive in Daniel Murphy to give Colorado a 6-5 lead. Closer Scott Oberg would polish off St. Louis in the bottom of the inning for his 21st save of the year.

The game started fast with each team scoring three runs in the first inning. St. Louis clocked in two more in the fourth to gain a 5-3 advantage.

Rockies shortstop Trevor Story hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to just one run. The next inning, Charlie Blackmon hit an RBI double that drove home David Dahl from first base.

Starter Kyle Freeland finished the day allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Jake McGee (1-0) earned the win in relief.

Colorado improved to 49-25 and hold a 7.5-game lead over the Dodgers (42-33) for first place in the National League West. The Rockies begin a three-game series at home against the Padres on Friday. Chi Chi Gonzalez (2-5) takes on Dinelson Lamet (5-6).
