Christopher SmithA 38-year-old Denver man was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday in connection with a fatal stabbing last week at the National Western Complex, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
On June 16, a man cut in front of Christopher Smith in line for a shower at the facility, which has been used during the COVID-19 pandemic as a shelter for those experiencing homelessness, the DA’s office said.
According to witnesses, a verbal altercation ensued and continued into the dormitory area. Smith then allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck, prosecutors said. The man died that night at the hospital.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
