Helicopter crash near Rifle hospitalizes two

A helicopter crashed near Rifle about 7 a.m. Saturday, sending two people to a hospital, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred near the city limits on Airport Road and caused a fire, which was contained, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The purpose of the flight was unclear, the sheriff’s office said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
