Getting your player ready...

Why are you seeking public office?
I am a third generation North Denver resident where my husband and I are raising our three children in the same community we are from. I consider myself fortunate to have been born and educated in Colorado.

After college I started my work in the human services field. I am currently the Director for a program where we work with youth and families helping them navigate complicated systems through what can sometimes be bureaucratic and complicated and provide assistance in seeking mental health assistance, substance abuse treatment and assessing and assisting with basic needs such as housing, clothing and food. My experience gives me a unique perspective of the challenges Colorado families face and what needs to change to meet their needs. I would be honored to continue to serve my community.

What will your top three priorities be if elected?
• I continue to value public education, ensuring that K-12 and higher learning are funded and that trade and apprenticeship opportunities are available to everyone in Colorado.

• Criminal Justice reform is something that I am invested in because of my work with youth. There are millions of dollars being spent on private prisons and incarceration of individuals that would benefit from substance abuse and/or mental health treatment instead of criminalizing these health needs.

• Housing policy because this is a human right and we still struggle with people having access to housing but also predatory practices by some landlords and leasing companies.

Do you support some type of public option health insurance or Medicare for All at the state level? If so, which and why? If not, why not?
Although Medicare for All would be preferred, there is additional policy at the Federal level that would be needed. Public Option is something that would be realistic to move forward on a state level. I would however support both of these options as I believe there needs to be changes in our health care and insurance systems. Health care is a human right and everyone should have easy access to care.

Have your views on policing and racism in Colorado changed this year? If so, how?
No, my views have not changed on policing and racism as this is something my family; generations before me have been fighting against before me. My grandfather was a civil rights leader fighting for equal rights and against police brutality in Denver, Colorado. I was honored to be a prime sponsor of SB20-217, Law Enforcement Integrity Act and will continue to move policies such as this to address the disparities and antiquated policies.

Do you place a greater importance on addressing climate change or preserving Colorado’s oil and gas industry? What steps would you take on these issues as a lawmaker?
I see a great importance on addressing climate change and continue to support legislation that is creating goals and policies to decrease greenhouse gas emissions. As well as holding polluters accountable and giving impacted communities a voice.

Should Colorado consider any new gun laws? If so, which do you support?
I would be supportive of gun laws to address storing guns safely and increasing wait periods for people when they are purchasing a gun.

To bring us back to limited government, individual liberties, free enterprise, and moral absolutes.

No. Government fails at providing services for cost. Tax is the cost, and government does not protect the interest of those paying the bills.

My views have not changed this year. I still believe one should be judged by the content of their character than by the color of their skin, uniform, or any other social status.
