There will be a significant closure to I-70 in Denver soon as part of the massive Central 70 Project.

Starting Friday, Dec. 18, at 10 p.m., a nearly 4-mile stretch of highway will be closed from Brighton Boulevard to I-270. The closure is planned in order to demolish the old Colorado Boulevard bridge and is expected to last until Monday, Dec. 21 at 5 a.m.

CDOT suggests that drivers use I-25 to connect with I-76 back down to I-270 to get around the closure.

There will be local access to the Washington, Brighton, York and the Steele/Vasquez exits.

The Central 70 Project started in August 2018 to expand a 10-mile corridor between Interstate 25 in Denver and Chambers Road in Aurora, adding an express lane in each direction and rebuilding some sections. The $1.2 billion project is part of a public-private partnership that is expected to cost CDOT an estimated $2.2 billion overall, including three decades of operation and maintenance. Project completion is slated for early 2023.
