The University of Northern Colorado men’s basketball team is still scheduled to play Colorado State, but it will be after the new year.

UNC that the Bears would play Regis at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Initially, the Bears were scheduled to face the Rams in Fort Collins on Saturday evening.

CSU postponed the matchup against UNC, because it lacked enough student-athletes to practice and adequately prepare for the game, according to a Northern Colorado press release. The Rams, however, announced this week that they would play CSU-Pueblo at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The CSU Athletic Department did not provide any additional details about the swap.

“It is disappointing our men’s basketball program will not be facing Colorado State on Saturday. We were fully prepared for the game,” Darren Dunn, UNC athletic director, said in a press release. “We look forward to our game with CSU later in the season.”

UNC will play at CSU on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The schools will announce the game time at a later date.

“We’re glad that we were able to get this game rescheduled with Northern Colorado,” CSU head coach Niko Medved said in a release. “It is always good to play quality opponents in state, and this game will definitely be one of those. We are excited to get our season started as I know the guys are ready to face someone new.”

Both teams missed the first two weeks of the season because of positive COVID-19 cases. UNC canceled its first three games, including a trip to Arizona, due to a singular positive test. CSU noted multiple cases.

The Bears are still expected to play CU in Boulder at 7 p.m. Monday.
