Brewers 12, Rockies 3 (9 innings)
Friday at Salt River Fields

On the mound: After tossing two scoreless innings in his Cactus League debut earlier this week, southpaw Austin Gomber put up another strong performance with two more scoreless innings. So far, Gomber (acquired in the Nolan Arenado trade from St. Louis, with whom he had a 1.86 ERA in 14 appearances in 2020) is looking up to the task of clinching the last open spot in Colorado’s rotation.

At the plate: In his 2021 Cactus League debut shortstop Trevor Story blasted a 407-foot, three-run homer off Milwaukee righty Jordan Zimmermann. Besides that, Colorado only had four hits overall.

Worth noting: Milwaukee hammered right-handers Mychal Givens and Carlos Estévez — both of whom are expected to be key parts of the Colorado bullpen this year — in the fourth and fifth innings to break the game open. The Brewers tagged Givens for three runs in the fourth and Estevez for five runs in the fifth. Each gave up three-run home runs.
