Through the first month-plus of the 2021 MLB season, a look at Colorado products in the major leagues. (All statistics are entering this weekend.)
Padres RHP Mark Melancon (Golden) — The journeyman is with his eighth team in his 13th season, and has been nothing short of magic for San Diego. The closer is 11 for 11 in save opportunities and has a 0.60 ERA.
Twins’ LHP Taylor Rodgers (Chatfield) — The Twins have struggled but Rodgers has been decent with a 2.77 ERA in 13 innings. The southpaw has blown two of his four save opportunities however.
Giants RHP Kevin Gausman (Grandview) —Gausman has been solid since arriving in San Francisco last year, and he’s 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA in six starts (five of them quality) in 2021. He has K’d 40 to just 11 walks.
Rockies LHP Kyle Freeland (Thomas Jefferson) —Colorado’s southpaw has yet to make his 2021 debut due to a shoulder injury that he suffered in spring training, but he’s likely to be sent out on a rehab assignment soon.
Padres RHP Pierce Johnson (Faith Christian) —Johnson made his way back to the majors in 2020 after a season hiatus, and in 2021, he has a 4.32 ERA in 10 games, with a 1.200 WHIP. He’s yet to yield a homer.
Mets LHP David Peterson (Regis Jesuit) — After debuting last July, Peterson earned a spot in the Mets’ rotation this year. The southpaw has undergone growing pains, with a 1-3 record and 4.81 ERA in five starts.
Mariners LHP Marco Gonzales (Rocky Mountain) — The ace has underperformed since signing a four-year, $30 million extension in the offseason. He’s 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA, and is on the 10-day IL with a forearm strain.
Giants RHP Tyler Rogers (Chatfield) —Taylor’s twin brother is tied for the MLB lead with 17 appearances. The submariner has been lights out with a 1.02 ERA and a 0.849 WHIP.
Cubs INF David Bote (Faith Christian) —Bote struggled at the plate last year and that’s carried into 2021, as he’s slashing .176/.253/.294 through 30 games. His defense continues to be solid at second and third base.
Rockies LHP Lucas Gilbreath (Legacy) —A seventh-round pick in 2017 out of Minnesota, Gilbreath took huge strides during 2020’s canceled minor league season. He debuted May 1, and has a 9.00 ERA in two games.
Mariners OF/2B Sam Haggerty (Mullen) —In his third year in the bigs, Haggerty is slashing .213/.262/.328 through 23 games, with two homers and five RBIs. He’s played mostly left field, with 12 starts there.
Marlins RHP Jordan Holloway (Ralston Valley) — He debuted last July with one-third of an inning pitched, his total for 2020. He’s thrown 10 more innings this year across five games, and has yet to allow a run.
