Commerce City police shot and killed a man Monday who authorities say was holding a knife when officers responded to a report of a family disturbance.

At approximately noon Monday, Commerce City officers were dispatched to the 7500 block of Brighton Boulevard regarding “a family disturbance in progress,” police said in a news release.

There, officers were confronted by an adult male with a knife and “an officer-involved shooting occurred,” police said in the news release.

Police offered no further details about what happened.

The man police shot, who has not been publicly identified, suffered critical injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

No officers were injured, Commerce City police said.
