The 40-plus straight days of poor air quality ended this weekend. But, the deep breaths won’t last long as Monday brings more smoke into the region. The start of this week will be hot and smoky.
Smoke will increase today, otherwise it will be mostly sunny and warm. An isolated storm or two is possible late in the day in the mountains around South Park.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder, the temperature will reach 91 degrees in Denver on Monday under sunny skies. Smoke from the northwest will drift east over the Front Range but is expected to remain mostly aloft. NWS says some mixing will occur, making for noticeably deteriorating conditions in the afternoon. An evening southern wind could bring some relief from the smoke, but those areas will be localized. Temperatures will drop to 61 degrees overnight.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has not yet listed an air quality advisory to begin the week but cautions about the smoke from out-of-state wildfires.
Tuesday will be smoky again, with a high of 94 degrees. There could be 20 mph wind gusts, and the low will dip to 63 degrees.
Wednesday brings a 40% chance of showers. The mostly sunny day will top at 93 degrees under the sun. Lows will be in the 60s around Denver.
Thursday brings the biggest threat for storms.
