Denver set a record for a high temperature for the date when the mercury hit 89 degrees Saturday.

The 89-degree reading in Denver topped the previous record high for May 7, which was 87 degrees, set in 1989.

With the new record hitting early in the afternoon, Saturday’s temperature could continue to climb, the weather service said. Perhaps a 90-degree reading is in store for Denver.
