Two people were killed Sunday when a plane crashed in Broomfield, according to North Metro Fire Rescue District.
The single-engine plane went down at about 11:50 a.m. in the Anthem Ranch neighborhood in northern Broomfield, near Lowell Boulevard and Las Brisas Drive, police said. Two people died; no one else was hurt and no homes were damaged, according to the fire department.
The plane took off from Erie Municipal Airport before the crash, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The airport is less than a mile north of the crash site.
North Metro Fire spokeswoman Sara Farris said the two victims died before first responders arrived, and that there was no “active fire” around the plane but that fire crews sprayed down the area as a precaution.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash, Farris said. The NTSB identified the downed plane as a Piper 32-260. A spokesman for the FAA on Sunday declined to confirm the identity of the plane.
“This is unfortunately the second fatal plane crash we’ve had in Broomfield in the last two weeks,” Farris said. “Itap just a real loss for our community.”
