Rain is expected to end late Wednesday morning after hours of much-needed precipitation for drought-stricken Colorado.

Cool temperatures will remain in the metro area, with highs in the mid- to upper-50s, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

A winter weather advisory remains in place for the southern foothills until noon Wednesday, making traveling to the mountains hazardous, forecasters said. Moderate to heavy snow is still falling around 8,500 to 9,000 feet, with total accumulation up to a foot in some areas.

Warmer weather is on its way, however. Highs in Denver will hit the 70s beginning Thursday and extending into the 80s over the weekend.
