The National Weather Service is warning Coloradans that afternoon thunderstorms on Wednesday will bring heavy rain, gusty winds and hail to parts of the state.
In metro Denver, there’s a 70% chance of rain from 1 to 11 p.m. Wednesday, with a high of 87 degrees and an overnight low of 61.
National Weather Service meteorologists said small hail is a possibility in metro Denver on Wednesday afternoon, with a slight chance of larger hail east of Interstate 25 and across the Eastern Plains to the Nebraska/Kansas border Wednesday evening.
There’s an 85% chance of rain in the mountains, from noon to 10 p.m., and a 70% chance on the plains from 2 p.m. to past midnight.
“A quick 1-2″ of rain could fall in a short period of time,” the National Weather Service’s Boulder office tweeted. “Never drive over a flooded road!”

Thursday’s metro Denver forecast shows a 40% chance of rain with a high of around 86. Overnight, Thursday’s temperature will drop to a low of 61, where it’ll be partly cloudy with a slight chance for precipitation.
Conditions will begin to clear up Friday, paving the way for a hot weekend.
Friday looks mostly clear with a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms, only about 20%.
Friday’s high will be somewhere around 92 degrees. Overnight, temperatures will drop to a low of 65 and conditions are looking mostly clear.
According to the National Weather Service, both Saturday and Sunday are expected to have highs of 97 and a very low likelihood for any moisture.
