Police say an El Paso County woman is a suspect in the death of her 4-year-old daughter, who was found unconscious early Wednesday at a truck stop in Fountain.

Police said officers who responded to the Love’s Truck Stop shortly after midnight performed CPR on Acelynn Staton-Contreras, but couldn’t revive her.

The girl’s mother, 24-year-old Emma Staton who lives in the Security-Widefield area, was arrested on a charge of child abuse resulting in death. She also faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A police spokeswoman said she didn’t know what kind of drugs Staton is accused of having on her.

The El Paso County coroner’s office hasn’t determined what caused the girl’s death.
