One woman is dead and three people are injured after a Saturday afternoon car crash in Aurora.
The crash was reported at 11:45 a.m. on 40th Avenue after the driver of a Toyota RAV4 ran a red light at the intersection of East 40th Avenue and Airport Boulevard, an Aurora Police Department news release stated. That intersection is near a Pena Boulevard overpass.
After running the red light, the RAV4, which was eastbound, struck a Jeep traveling north on Airport Boulevard. A Subaru sedan that was facing west on East 40th Avenue also was hit but only sustained minor damage, according to the news release.
The woman who was killed was a passenger in the RAV4 and she died on the scene. Two people were taken to a hospital in an ambulance, and one person rode to a hospital in a private vehicle. A fifth person was not hurt, Aurora police spokeswoman Faith Goodrich said.
The woman’s death was the 23rd traffic fatality in Aurora in 2022, police reported.
The crash caused traffic delays in the area for several hours.
