A driver died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 in Adams County on Thursday in about the same area where a tanker truck rolled earlier in the morning.

The fatal crash happened at about 11 a.m. in the northbound lanes near 84th Avenue, said Sgt. Troy Kessler, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.

The driver of a 2005 Honda Accord, a 34-year-old Thornton man, Kongmeng Vue, died at the scene, Kessler said. A 7-year-old child in the car was taken to a local hospital with “serious” injuries. The driver was using a seatbelt at the time of the crash and the child was securely and properly restrained.

The Honda driver was northbound when the vehicle ran into the back end of the truck, which was stopped and parked on the right shoulder because of a mechanical problem, Kessler said. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

The truck, registered in Oklahoma, was hauling liquid nitrogen, Kessler said. There was no rupture or fire involved in the collision.

The truck driver, a 60-year-old Montana man, was not injured. The two right lanes were temporarily closed by the crash and emergency response.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday a tanker truck rolled on the highway in a single-vehicle crash in the same area. The truck driver was taken to a local hospital.
