The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon near East 160th Avenue and Quebec Street, according to North Metro Fire Rescue.
The fire sparked in a tank that collects and holds water used in operations to plug oil wells, according to NMFR. Residual oil in the tank caught fire, producing tall flames and black smoke.
Firefighters used a specialized response trailer “equipped with environmentally friendly foam” to douse the fire, NMFR said. The fire was contained to the tank. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
