The driver of a pickup truck who allegedly hit a woman on Interstate 25 early on New Year’s Day in Thornton has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Adam Wooley, 33, was scheduled for a Tuesday afternoon court hearing in the case. The against Wooley on Tuesday.

The woman was hit at about 12:33 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the northbound lanes of I-25 in Thornton, between 144th Avenue and Colorado 7, according to the .

The 22-year-old was dropped off by a rideshare driver with friends along the side of the interstate after she had become sick inside the vehicle. After exiting the rideshare, she walked into the highway lanes and was hit by two vehicles.

The first driver, Wooley in a truck, “sideswiped” her and did not stop, police said. A second vehicle then hit the woman, who died. The second driver remained on the scene after the collision, cooperated with police and was not charged in the incident. Wooley was initially investigated for hit-and-run involving death.
