One person was killed and two others injured in a fire early Friday at a single-story apartment building in Lakewood.

West Metro firefighters rescued a person from the burning building near the intersection of 12th Avenue and Allison Street. Three residents were hospitalized, including the person who died, according to a   posting on Twitter.

Investigators have determined that the fire was accidental and it started in the bedroom of the resident who died, West Metro said on Twitter. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

When firefighters arrived, before 5:30 a.m., flames had engulfed one apartment, and heavy smoke was streaming from the residence. The fire extended into a second residence before it was doused.
