Wait ’till next year is already here for the Rockies. Well, at least the 2024 schedule has arrived.
Major League Baseball announced its full slate of games Thursday, and the Rockies’ 2024 schedule features a two-game trip to Mexico City on April 27-28, where the Rockies will face the Astros, marking the second time in franchise history that the Rockies will play a regular season series in Mexico. The Rockies played their 1999 season opener against the Padres in Monterrey, winning 8-2.
The Rockies’ season begins March 28 with a convenient four-game series against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix, just a short drive from the Rockies’ spring training complex in Scottsdale. Next, Colorado heads to the friendly — and likely cold and blustery — confines of Chicago’s Wrigley Field for a three-game series with the Cubs.
Colorado’s home opener is scheduled for Friday, April 5 vs. Tampa Bay at Coors Field. It will mark the first time in franchise history that Colorado’s home opener features an American League team.
This season, the Rockies’ first home game was on a Thursday, but the Friday opener has become something of a tradition, bringing an annual baseball party to LoDo.
Colorado’s 2024 schedule includes 13 games against each National League West rival (two series at home and two on the road), one home and one road series against each NL East and Central team, and at least one series, either home or road, with each AL team.
This weekend, the New York Yankees will play at Coors Field, and large crowds are expected. Next season, the Red Sox will come to town, July 22-24, bringing Boston baseball fanatics to the ballpark.
On the road, the Rockies will play at Toronto April 12-14, marking their first trip to Toronto since 2013.
The season concludes with a six-game homestand with three games against the Cardinals on Sept. 24-26 and a three-game set against the Dodgers on Sept. 27-29.
