Denver officers arrested a man connected to a fatal Thursday night shooting that killed one and injured another Saturday.

Just before 2 a.m. on Thursday, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the City Park West neighborhood, near the area of East 16th Avenue and North Marion Street.

According to a Saturday news release from the Denver police department, when police officers arrived on the scene, they found two victims and transported them to a nearby hospital. One, 42-year-old Kenneth Watkins, later died from his injuries.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner ruled Watkins’ death as a homicide caused by a gunshot wound.

Jeremiah Brown, 20, was arrested Saturday and is being held for investigation of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, the Saturday release stated.

Brown’s final charges will be released by the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

Just after 1 a.m. Thursday, Brown got into a fight with the two victims — Watkins and an unidentified adult female — before pulling out his gun and shooting both of them, the news release stated.
