Denver and surrounding communities can expect the first snow of the season this weekend, with the National Weather Service forecasting freezing temperatures, rain and snow starting on Friday.
The National Weather Service issued a on Thursday morning for parts of the foothills, plains and the urban corridor north of Interstate 70.
A cold front that will blow through the state over the weekend is expected to bring temperatures as low as 12 degrees and Denver’s first day of the season entirely below freezing on Sunday.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder said it’s still unclear exactly , but they said most of the plains, including Denver, could get between throughout the weekend.
Localized areas could see up to six inches.
There’s a slight chance of rain Friday night that will turn into rain and snow showers Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service. , with forecasters predicting an 80% chance of snow showers Saturday night.
Saturday’s high temperature is expected to reach just 35 degrees with lows falling to 21 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday will have less of a chance of snow, just 30% before noon, but temperatures will stay below freezing all day with a high of just 29 degrees.
Skies will clear into the afternoon and Sunday night is expected to be the coldest part of the weekend with a low of 14 degrees.
After Sunday, temperatures warm back up to the 40s Monday and Halloween Tuesday and then into the 50s by Wednesday.
