A four-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver shut down both directions of E-470 on Wednesday in Thornton. One person died, and several were taken to hospitals.
According to State Patrol Master Trooper Gary Cutler, dispatchers received a call at 4:33 p.m. Wednesday about a wrong-way driver causing a wreck with three other vehicles in the southbound lanes of E-470 near Colorado Boulevard.
Cutler said one person died and several were taken to hospitals. He did not know how many people were traveling in each of the vehicles involved or which vehicle the person who died was traveling in.
Northbound lanes of E-470 were closed at York Street, and southbound lanes were closed near the wreck.
Cutler said it was not clear whether there were other factors involved in the crash, such as speed or drug or alcohol use.
