Father, daughter injured in hit-and-run crash with ski biker at Colorado resort

The man is in critical condition at a Denver hospital

A father and daughter skiing at were injured when a man riding a ski bike crashed into them and fled the scene on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

The hit-and-run crash occurred at the bottom of the Bergman Bowl near the intersection of Blackjack and Prospector ski trails at around 12:30 p.m. when a man on a ski bike came up behind the father and daughter while they were exiting Blackjack, colliding with the daughter and then the father.

The pair was visiting from California, .

The father was seriously injured and is in critical condition at a Denver hospital. The daughter was also injured and has been treated and released, according to the sheriff’s office. Their ages were not immediately available.

Itap illegal to leave the scene of a ski crash that causes an injury without giving a name and current address to a resort employee or ski patrol member unless the person is seeking help for someone who was injured, Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said in a statement.

“This catastrophic collision, resulting in devastating injuries, evolved into a criminal event once the unidentified person fled the scene without identifying himself or seeking aid,” she said.

Investigators are looking for the ski biker but do not have a physical description. Anyone with information about the case can contact Summit County 911 Center at 970-668-8600.
