Colorado senior Jaylyn Sherrod has been named as one of the top 10 candidates for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which is presented annually to the top point guard in college women’s basketball.
The candidate list was cut down from 20 on the preseason watch list. Five finalists will be presented to Lieberman and the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame selection committee.
Sherrod is averaging 14.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.3 steals for the Buffaloes, who are ranked No. 3 in the country.
Going into this week, Sherrod ranks third in the Pac-12 with 42 steals and fifth with 92 assists. There are only 11 other Division I players averaging at least 10 points, five assists and two steals.
Sherrod is one of two candidates from the Pac-12, along with UCLA’s Kiki Rice. Colorado State’s McKenna Hofschild is also a candidate.
Iowa star Caitlin Clark is one of the 10 candidates and has won the award the past two seasons.
