Denver city officials are opening two additional severe weather shelters this week in anticipation of a winter storm thatap forecast to drop up to 16 inches of snow.
Severe weather shelters will be open from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 9 a.m. Saturday at the McNichols Civic Center Building, 144 W. Colfax Ave., and the Stone Creek shelter/former Best Western, 4595 Quebec St.
People needing shelter can walk up to the shelters directly, and people with pets should go to the Stone Creek shelter, city officials said Tuesday.
Denver recreation centers will be open as daytime warming centers on Thursday and Friday.
People needing shelter can also go to one of the city’s regular access points, including:
- Lawrence Street Community Center, 2222 Lawrence St., for individual men;
- Samaritan House, 2301 Lawrence St., for individual women;
- Urban Peak, 2100 Stout St., for youth 15-20 years old; and
- The Connection Center, 303-295-3366, for families.
