Churreria de Madrid has fried its last churro.

The shop, at 2501 Dallas St. in Aurora’s Stanley Marketplace, which was centered around the fried-dough and sugar-dusted treat, posted online this week that it had permanently closed.

Churreria de Madrid first opened in 2021 as an offshoot of the nearby Maria Empanada, a popular fixture at the Stanley whose chef, owners Lorena and Daniel Cantarovici.

“We regret to inform you that Churreria de Madrid  has closed,” owners wrote online. “We loved serving you hope to see you in the future!”

The shop started out selling churros and traditional dipping sides like chocolate before adding other treats, such as the gluten-free and dairy-free tarta de Santiago, as well as savory tapas such as patatas bravas, tortilla española, lobster croquettes and montaditos. It even merited a Staff Favorite selection in The Denver Post.

Formerly the home of Glazed & Confused Donuts, the Churreria de Madrid  stall peddled single churros for 85 cents, filled churros for $2.75 each, and a churros-and-chocolate combo — the latter for dipping — at $8. Filled churros featured pastry cream, dulce de leche, and fruit jelly.
