Denver police arrested a man Saturday on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the Friday death of the suspect’s roommate.

Police arrested Dakotah Lulei, 28, after an autopsy of his roommate revealed “internal injuries consistent with significant trauma,” Sunday. Lulei is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder and second-degree assault.

The victim was Matthew Murphy, 37, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Denver medical examiner’s office. The cause and manner of death are still being investigated.

When police responded to a medical emergency in the 5200 block of North Vasquez Boulevard on Friday night, the emergency was initially considered a possible overdose, according to the press release.

Additional details surrounding the death remain under investigation, police said.
