An Aurora man died following a shooting near East Colfax Avenue early Friday morning, according to police.
Officers responded to the shooting at an apartment in the 10900 block of East 16th Avenue at about 1:45 a.m. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police provided emergency medical care to the man until paramedics arrived and took him to a local hospital, where he soon died. While police initially reported another man had been detained, police spokeswoman Sydney Edwards wrote in an email Friday afternoon that no suspects have been arrested or charged in connection with the shooting.
Edwards said the victim and the suspected shooter knew each other, and the shooting was not random. She also said the homicide is not believed to be gang-related.
The victim, who Edwards said was 35 years old, will be identified by the Office of the Coroner of Adams & Broomfield Counties. The department is investigating the circumstances of the shooting, police said.
Members of the public with information about the shooting are encouraged to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers or at 720-913-7867.
