4 hospitalized in Aurora following shooting and car crash involving RTD train

Four people were hospitalized Wednesday following a shooting and subsequent car crash in Aurora.

Just before 8:30 a.m., police responded to a shooting in the parking lot of a residence in the 18000 block of East Kepner Place in southeast Aurora, authorities said on . A vehicle then fled the scene and crashed into an RTD light rail train near East Ellsworth Avenue and Sable Boulevard.

Three men and one woman were transferred to the hospital, police said. One man suffered life-threatening injuries, another suffered serious injuries and two women sustained minor injuries.

The suspects, who know each other, have been detained, police said.

The RTD train will be out of service for an extended period of time, authorities said. All lanes of East Ellsworth Avenue and Sable Boulevard were closed in both directions but have since reopened.
