The Colorado Department of Transportation is partnering with the Colorado State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies to target drunken drivers throughout the state beginning Presidents Day weekend,
Law enforcement is using sobriety checkpoints, putting a high number of officers in areas where they see lots of drunk driving, and increasing the number of patrols across the state through Feb. 26. The special enforcement period began Feb. 13.
Officials are encouraging all drivers, especially people going to ski or snowboard, to drive safely and use public transportation or rideshare services if they will be drinking or using drugs.
Last year, Colorado law enforcement arrested 473 people for drunken driving during Presidents Day weekend. So far this year, CSP has investigated over 100 drunken-driving crashes.
