More than 900 flights were delayed at Denver International Airport on Thursday as thunderstorms brought high winds, hail and the threat of tornadoes to metro Denver and the Eastern Plains.
All departing for an hour Thursday afternoon after the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a ground stop because of the weather, the agency said on its website. The ground stop was lifted at 5:30 p.m.
There were 948 delayed and 24 canceled flights as of 8 p.m., according to the

Arriving flights were delayed by an average of 2 hours and 18 minutes because of a traffic management program for weather, the
Southwest Airlines reported 285 delays while United had 291 and SkyWest reported 210.
Flights leaving Denver for San Francisco International Airport also were delayed because of the weather.
